NODA Awards - 2014
In 2014, Bury St Edmunds Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society were recognised by winning two prestigious awards from Noda (the National Operatic and Dramatic Association), which is the umbrella organisation for amateur performing societies throughout the UK. The Awards were presented at a glittering Award Ceremony held at Burgess Hall, St Ives, Cambridgeshire on 27th April. Representing BSEAODS were Debbie Croll (Chairman), Judith Thomas (2014 Committee member), Cary Palmer (2013 Committee member) and Joan Abbs (our Archivist and long-serving Society member of 35 years).
For its production of the World Premiere of Sex and The Village, (within its District of Noda East), BSEAODS won the accolade of Best Technical Award for 2013, in recognition of the stunning and innovative set design which the Society commissioned for this exciting new musical comedy.
We would like to thank Lou Petch, who worked tirelessly with the designers to produce the award winning set for Sex and the Village. Lou did a brilliant job and it’s fabulous that all her efforts have been recognised with this Noda Award.
This award came hot on the heels of being also awarded the highest honour of the year – the Councillor's Cup (2013) – akin to winning a lifetime award at the Oscars!! BSEAODS won this award in recognition of their 110th Anniversary year (2013). Don McKay, Noda East Councillor, congratulated BSEAODS on its illustrious 110 year history, commenting that the Society continues to achieve exceptionally high standards for all its productions, upholdinga fine reputation throughout its history.
He added, that BSEAODS is also well-known for being such a friendly and welcoming Society – which is something we are extremely proud of.
Our mission is not only to entertain the theatre going public within Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding area, but to encourage participation within the performing arts, in an atmosphere which encourages and develops talent - a friendly and fun environment for everyone involved with BSEAODS.
